This Saturday marks the 7 year anniversary of JapanLA! My, oh my, has time really gone by that quickly? It doesn’t seem like long ago, I was meeting Jamie for the first time when JapanLA was still located in their small shop on Fuller Street instead of their spacious spot on Melrose now.
In honor of 7 years of cuteness, there will be a party held at JapanLA featuring JapanLA Clothing, Locketship and Lime Crime.
(Click the here to get info on their Facebook event page)
There is much to be celebrated at tomorrow’s festivities:
- JapanLA’s anniversary (of course)
- Jamie’s birthday
- The release of JapanLA Clothing’s newest line “Kitty Party”
- Locketship’s very first solo art show!
What a lot of people don’t know about Maria, owner/designer of Locketship, is that she also paints when she has the opportunity (which is pretty much never with how busy she is running a one woman show).
Ages ago, when Kalamari Kastle was still up and running, Josh, Marissa, and I wanted to do an interview with Maria about Locketship. The video interview was never completed, but we do have photos to prove she’s not only adorable herself, but creates adorable art as well.

You can tell how old these are because Maria had blonde hair 😛

Isn’t Maria a beauty? She says the pig in the Breakfast Club is a self portrait. What a funny girl.
Here she is with her piece from JapanLA’s “Kittens and Ice Cream” show that is the image on the flyer.
Here’s a sneak preview from Locketship’s Instagram of what to expect at the show.
Also, some images from the “Kitty Party” lookbook to give you a taste of the new releases.

Hope to see you there!
